As a leading representative university among those of agriculture and forestry in midlands and northern mountainous areas in training, international cooperation, and building of training facilities and so on, after 43 years of founding and development, University of Agriculture and Forestry (Thai Nguyen University) is always a brave pioneer that overcomes all difficulties, excellently accomplishes the task of training experts in science and engineering, fulfilling the needs of industrialization and modernization of agriculture and rural areas in the integration and development era.

University of Agriculture and Forestry - Thai Nguyen University: Retaining the title of Labour Hero in the renovation.

University of Agriculture and Forestry, a part of Thai Nguyen University, was established in 1970 under Resolution No. 98/QĐ-TTg of the Prime Minister. After nearly 43 years since its founding and development, with occasional changes in the names to make it favourable for practical tasks and requirements; in 1994 the university has become a member unit named University of Agriculture and Forestry, under the government's decree no. 31/CP on establishing Thai Nguyen University.

Its functions are to train personnel of agricultural science and engineering with undergraduate and graduate levels; to research and transfer scientific-technological progress for agricultural production - rural development, and social and economic development in midlands and mountainous areas of northern Vietnam. In its early years since its establishment, the university encountered numerous difficulties regarding inadequacy of number and quality of personnel and lecturers; poorly facilitated equipments for teaching practices; small-scaled education; limited research and information exchanges, etc. However, up to now the university has managed a specialized personnel, lecturers and technicians in charge of training in 28 specialties in bachelor; 7 specialties in master training and 6 specialties in doctor training of fields like: cultivation; stock-raising; agricultural economy; land management; environmental  science; and forestry, etc. The university has accomplished its tasks of training a workforce of skilled engineers and strives its best to be one of the most prestigious school of the field in Vietnam. This is owing to the unity and efforts of all the staffs and lecturers, etc., especially the supports of central departments and branches and Thai Nguyen University.

The laboratory system of the Univetsity

Having 43 years of experience and development since its founding, our school has been actively overcome difficulties in the training tasks; reinforce and expand international training linkages and researches. The school has excessively fulfilled its missions in training the forces of working staff for the field. As of 2012, the school has generated more than twenty-seven thousand engineers, more than one thousand masters of science, 30 doctors of sciences along with a great number of trainees among whom about one half are originally from minor ethnic groups and remote areas.

Particularly, the school has always taken the lead in science researches and agricultural technology transfer. We attach our accomplishments to the training tasks to positively enhance the quality of training workforces to the region and the country, as to by step bring a new look to the rural and mountainous areas in an attempt to foster the industrialization of agriculture and rural areas. The training tasks have attained breakthrough in quality, as of present the school has 5 Professors, 30 Associate Professors, 101 doctors and 180 domestically and overseas trained masters of science. It is the number of graduate teaching staffs being 85% that puts the school in a leading position among other universities of the midland and mountainous region of Northern Vietnam.

International Training Center

In recognition of its remarkable contribution to the development of the national agriculture and rural renown in Vietnam generally and the northern mountainous and midland Vietnam particularly, the school has many of its staff and divisions presented honoured awards by the State Government, official ministries and agencies and the people committee of the province. Typically, we had our honour to receive “First Medal of Labour” and “Third Medal of Independence” in 1995 and 2005 respectively. Alongside, we have a staff to honour the title “Labour Hero during the Reformation”; another to “People’s Teacher” and 10 to “Typical Teacher”. Distinctively, The President has presented the title “Labour Hero during the National Renovation” to the school under the Decision 26/QĐ CTN on January 07, 2013.
