SILKEN – VIETNAM | Workshop: Climate Action

On November 9th, 2022, the workshop "CLIMATE ACTION" was held successfully by the Thai Nguyen University of Agriculture and Forestry (TUAF), and University of Northampton from UK at Meeting Hall A1, the Central House of TUAF with the attendance of Duy Tan University. Besides, it also welcomed online participation of guests from many famous universities in Vietnam such as National Economics Uni of Vietnam (NEU), University of Languages and Inter Studies (ULIS) – VNUHN, University of Social Sciences and Humanities – VNUHCM and Vietnam British Council.

This workshop explored research into SDG13: Climate Action. A brief overview of the SDG area KPIs and research were provided, followed by a talk by a guest speaker with expertise in climate related research. The breakout sessions will provide the partners with the opportunity to map out those KPIs that they believe they can support with research and create research groups around at their HEIs. Specific areas of focus include: Climate resilience, Climate policy development, Education and awareness-raising, Renewables and community sustainability.

The workshop was started by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hung Quang, Rector of TUAF and Dr. Duong Van Thao, Head of Science, Technology & International Cooperation Department. During the opening part, all participants had a chance to discuss about potential collaboration among partners.

The presentation part of the workshop was moderated by the other three speakers, Dr. Truong Thi Anh Tuyet, Dr. Nguyễn Thu Lệ Hằng and Dr. Nguyễn Diệu Hằng. The first speaker from TUAF, Dr. Truong Thi Anh Tuyet, discussed an interesting topic named Home Garden Agroforestry in Promoting Resilient Food Systems and Nature Conservation for Smallholder Farmers under Climate Change”.

After that, Dr. Nguyễn Thu Lệ Hằng, Lecturer of ULIS lead everyone in also exciting subject called “Emotional intelligence and social communication- when learning is a happy journey”.

And the last presentation belonged to Dr. Nguyễn Diệu Hằng, Lecturer of NEU with the topic “Economic analysis of solutions responding to climate change in Cái Lớn - Cái Bé Sewer Systems project, Kiên Giang province”.

The event was formally closed by Prof. Richard Hazenberg, Northampton University. He shared some useful points related to workshop subjects and thanked all speakers for their insightful and innovative topics and ideas presented during the event and the participants for their active participation. Mr. Richard and all participants also hoped to organize more same useful workshop in the future.
