DAAD-TUAF Scholarship Programme

In 2020, the DAAD-TUAF In-Country/In-Region Master Scholarship Programme was offered to foster strong and internationally oriented higher education systems with the capacity to contribute to sustainable development. Scholarships are granted for development-related Master studies of individuals who plan to pursue a career in teaching and/or research at a higher education institution in their home region or in in South East Asia.

By training future academic professionals and leaders, the DAAD-TUAF In-Country/In-Region Master Scholarship Programme contributes to the following long-term impacts:

  • Qualified professionals' involvement in solving development-related problems
  • Graduates strengthening education and research in Southeast Asia
  • Structural strengthening and regional networking of partner institutions and universities

 

To achieve these long-term impacts, the following outcomes have been formulated as programme objectives:

Programme objective 1:

Graduates are qualified to take on responsible positions in or for their region of origin

Programme objective 2:

The participation of women and underprivileged groups is reinforced

Programme objective 3:

Organizational, financial, and personal capacities of partner institutions are strengthened

 

Eligibility

  • have successfully completed generally a three-year university undergraduate degree (Master candidates) with above average results (upper third of class);
  • clearly show motivation and strong commitment;
  • have thorough knowledge of English language (IELTS 6.0 and above);
  • have completed their last university degree not more than 6 years ago at the time of application;
  • must be nationals of a one of the following countries: Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao, Myanmar, Malaysia, Philippines, East Timor, Thailand and Vietnam;
  • Female applicants and candidates from less privileged regions or groups are especially encouraged to participate in the programme.

Scholarship Benefits

Covers tuition and other school fees; study and research allowance; printing allowance; stipend for food, lodging and incidental expenses; travel allowance (In-Region only); and insurance.

DAAD-TUAF In-Country/In-Region scholarship holders are also encouraged to apply for a research grant in Germany for 2 to 6 months, at the time of application. The short-term research scholarship includes:

  • A monthly scholarship payment for living costs - 500 EUR per month
  • Health/accident/personal liability insurance
  • A flat-rate travel allowance
  • Annual cost of scientific research - 460 EUR
  • The printing cost for the whole course - 400 EUR

 

Application Procedure

Interested applicants who would like to apply for the DAAD-TUAF In-Country / In-Region Master Program Scholarship must follow two steps below.

First step:

Applicants must apply for their studies at the link updated on 5th December 2020.

TUAF university will screen, pre-select (according to DAAD selection criteria) and short-list applicants. DAAD reserves the right of final selection.

Deadline for submission of application to the TUAF university21 February 2021.

Successful candidates will be selected to interview from 26 February 2021 to 05 March 2021.

Second step:

Pre-selected candidates are provided with the link to the DAAD-Portal. They are asked to log into the DAAD portal, register and submit a DAAD application.

 

Required documents

The required documents to be submitted should be in English:

  1. DAAD application form duly filled in (available in the DAAD-Portal);
  2. Hand signed curriculum vitae (please use the European specimen form at http://europass.cedefop.europa.eu);
  3. One recommendation letter by university teachers;
  4. Letter of admission for the TUAF university;
  5. Letter of motivation (mentioning the planned research in Germany, if applicable);
  6. Copy of bio-page of the passport;
  7. Certified copies of university degree certificates including transcripts;
  8. Certification from a medical doctor that the applicant is in good physical and mental health condition and is fit to undertake graduate studies (Covid-19, hepatitis B virus, HIV are required);
  9. Results of Test of English as a Foreign Language: TOEFL iBT result (80) or IELTS results (6.0). The TOEFL results must be issued by Princeton, New Jersey, USA. Check the schedule and venue of TOEFL tests in your country at http://www.ets.org/toefl
