1st Japan, Thailand and Indonesia Joint Seminar on Sustainable Agricultural Development Goals (SADGs)
- Current Status and Future Development on Sustainable Agriculture and Food Supply System in Asia -
supported by Kyushu U Webinar100
This is the international joint seminar with the Kyushu Society of Agricultural Machinery and Food Engineers.

18 March, 2021 (Online Seminar)

Background
Against the issues such as the frequent occurrence of abnormal weather, a growing world population, and diversifying consumers’ needs, there is an accelerating movement to promote the transition to sustainable food production in the world. On the other hand, for the aging of the farming population (in Japan), and the decrease in the number of farmers, we have to consider and shift labor-saving agricultural production system. In this situation, research to promote the advancement of agricultural production technology (smart agriculture or precision agriculture) using information and communication technology (ICT) is being conducted around the world. In particular, the use of agricultural materials such as fertilizers and pesticides has been evaluated using aerial images of plant growth and disease incidence measured by drones, and the result has been utilized to reduce management cost and environmental impact.
In addition, there is a need to develop storage and transportation technologies for agricultural products to reduce food loss and to meet the growing needs for international transportation of agricultural products.
As described above, the establishment of a sustainable agriculture and food supply system that covers all sectors from agricultural production to consumption is an important issue to be addressed in the future.
