On 07 October 2016, the launching ceremony of the project on Development of International Master Program in Environmental Science was held at Thai Nguyen University of Agriculture and Forestry (TUAF), in collaboration with Greifswald University, Germany. Attending the launching ceremony were delegates from Greifswald University, Germany; TUAF, Vietnam; University System of Taiwan, Taiwan; Sriwijaya University, Indonesia; and the Vietnamese Greifswald alumni network.

For the past two years, many cooperation activities have been organised between TUAF and Greifswald University in Germany. Every year, the Spring School is held and at least four lecturers from Greifswald University come to TUAF as visiting lecturers. That activity has attracted the participation of a lot of staff and students from TUAF. The success of Spring School has inspired the two universities to develope the international master program in environmental science. The project has received financial support from German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

This international Master Program is expected to establish the international study environment for students in Vietnam and other countries in South East Asia. Students of the program will have chances to exchange for one or two semesters at the partner universities in Australia, Taiwan and Indonesia. At the launching ceremony, there was the open discussion among participants on the development of curriculumn, subjects, targeting at the expectations of students, labor market and society. The program is planned to recruit students from 2018.
